Leptospermum madidum - Sydney

Post by Rory »

This is a heads up. I recently got back from a wander around 'the big flower' at Ourimbah nursery on the central coast.

They have a large number of Leptospermum madidum with trunks about 1cm thick and some with a lot of movement.
This is one of my favourite Leptos to grow and the reason I'm letting you guys know. It is probably the most weeping of any Lepto I've seen. All stock is about $12 for 8inch tubs. From my experience in the last year or so of growing them they appear highly resistant to myrtle rust, and are prolific growers for the humid conditions here.

They also have Thryptomene saxicola too :tu:
The other varieties they have are a million Callistemon. I personally do not like callistemon much any more, but they have a tonne of them, and I mean a tonne.
They have other varieties of Lepto too.
They have lots of Banksia integrifolia
Melalueca linarifolia dwarf
And they now have some larger Melaleuca quinquinerva, with that papery peeling bark.

I style Bonsai naturally, just as they would appear in the wild.

l.maddidum is also one of my favourites, this one I like very much, it was grown by a member of the Bendigo club.

Yeah they have such naturally beautiful growth. I picked up 4 of them so will repot and check out the roots in about November. The last one didn't even blink after a cut back and repot. It very quickly put out vigorous new growth.

Nice tree whomever owns it Gerard.
