Looking for Nothofagus moorei,, Antarctic Beech

Post by Rintar »

I’m keeping my ears out for Nothofagus moorei, which is called an Antarctic Beech or Negrohead Beech. They’re native to the New England, Dorrigo area and are a bit tricky to find. This is more for a friend than myself but if he can get some I may be rewarded in the future. Lives in the southern highlands NSW if anyone has any or knows someone that is a grower or has some available please do contact me.
It's not so much for bonsai but they have are a plant nerd and it's on there list. Any help.appreciated.

Burringbar had them listed at one point, but they no longer deliver or sell online. You could contact them and ask if they have it in stock and then worry about the logistics as a second step. https://burringbarrainforestnursery.com.au/

Only other suggestion I have is to call a few of the local nurseries near Barrington Tops, Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay near where there are populations of the tree and see if anyone there is propagating. Even Daley's might be worth a call; although they are slightly further north, I've heard they are quite helpful.

Just spotted that Yamina have them listed in their 2022 retail price list https://www.yaminarareplants.com.au/ima ... L_2022.pdf https://www.yaminarareplants.com.au/
