Eucalyptus bark peel

Its that time of the year for smooth barks to shed bark and rough bark to put another layer on. The pics are some of my eucs going through that process. It generally starts at the base and works its self up the tree.

I think I have over stressed the river peppermint as it is only 2 weeks after potting, but it should survive.

Lovely collection of Aussie Natives Peter. I would love to see them in full leaf. Is the big chunky hollow trunk a red gum.?

Yes is a polyanthemos ( Red Box ) Its been an experimental tree for the leaf size. It is still recovering from a complete defoliation ( not the solution,pinching back new growth seems to be better) last summer and a re-pot from a nursery pot to a Bonsai pot.

Great looking trunks there - I especially like the look of the Manna Gum. Have we seen that tree in its entirety here?

It may have been coincidence, but I have lost a number of Eucs when I repotted too close to the shedding period. I suspect that it had more to do with my aftercare than any physiological concerns with the trees, but I thought it worth a mention.

Is there a Wallangara White Gum missing from these photos? I seem to recall a stunning display from this tree a few years back...

Anyway, here's my Yellow Box (E. meliodora) beginning to shed:

The nicholii ( large is about 15 years, the smaller is about 6 years) and the mannifera is about 6 years.

Your Yellow Box is coming along well. I have followed your post on this tree and it has been interesting.

As far as the Mannif you may not know the story. About 7 years ago I bought 2 advanced Eucs from a local council nursery and they were labeled scoparia as were about 30 others.
As you know Steven had one at the native show last year and it was very different to the 2 I had. I did some research and re-classified my scoparia to mannifera.

I consider the one in the pic not as good as the other one. This one is shedding its bark earlier so it made the photo.

During the shedding process i am assuming that the tree is putting on wood.Similar to non natives during Autumn. Although the river peppermint is obviously stressed from the re-potting, I am hopping the added stress of shedding does not kill the tree.

Now I am aware this maybe a problem I will monitor repots on larger Eucs at this time of year.

I didn't want to start a new thread on the topic so I've revived an old one.
For some reason my Eucalyptus rubida has decided to start shedding its bark early. BTW, that stick is being used to twist the cotton twine to slowly pull down a branch.

Yeah, the base of a Eucalyptus or Angophora is their best asset. Beautiful!
