Banksia Ericifolia - 3 years
This Banksia Spinulosa was going to be in a shohin comp from three years ago but unfortunately I forgot a photo and was disqualified. That didn't mean I gave up on the tree of course and I just wanted to show what the difference in three years of growth and work.
Today I put it into its first "real" bonsai pot, one from Mudlark.

Re: Banksia Golden Glow - 3 years
This looks good (and I don't normally care for natives!-)
Interesting foliage - looks almost juniper like).
Are you looking at having the left side grow out a bit?

Beautiful pot for a beautiful tree
You said shohin, how big is it Watto? The foliage is confusing me haha. Also will you be thinning it out a bit in the future?
Cheers,
Pearcy.

Re: Banksia Golden Glow - 3 years
I'm thinking short left, long right for the foliage. It was going to be a shohin, but it currently is about 27 cm so a fraction tall, but that could be worked down over the coming years. If I was going to show it I would thin out some foliage, but right now it is preparing for winter and needs some extra coverage.

Could very well be and I m certainly no expert in plant identification, I was relying on the plant label which was attached to it when I got it. Labels are not always correct.

Re: Banksia Golden Glow - 3 years
I looked up some old notes and discovered that it is in fact ericifolia. Sorry about the misinformation.

I don't trust Bonsai, they are a little shady.

Re: Banksia Ericifolia - 3 years
V nice! Banksias are interesting plants aren't they? Never considered ericifolia as a bonsai but with smaller leaves than than integrifolia and serrata they look ideal. Love to see it flowering as they have large flowers. I have seen a dwarf ericifolia called Giant Candles from memory. Nicely matched pot 2.Watto wrote:I looked up some old notes and discovered that it is in fact ericifolia. Sorry about the misinformation.

Re: Banksia Ericifolia - 3 years
Nice little tree Watto,
They can put on size quickly. They seem to produce flowers in the axial of the branches on 2 year old growth. Mine had a flower on it this year but the hail removed it.
Regards,
Peter
