I have a roll similar to Andrew's one. It was made for me by a friend out of a light weight canvas. I have had it for many years and so now it has a good soaking of oil, which helps keep the rust away. I have seen similar rolls, in different sizes, at a few different Bonsai Nurseries as well.

This is the tool roll I have just made. It rolls up and goes into a tool bag where I keep all my bonsai stuff. i'm fortunate enough to have an industrial machine where I can cater for my needs.

Step 1. Take an old pair of denim jeans, or grab a $3 pair from the op shop.

Step 2. Kindly sweet-talk your better half into getting out her scissors and sewing machine. :P

Step 3. Use each trouser leg to make your custom design.

Voila! 2 tool rolls for 3 bucks. ;)

Hi guys, I made this tool roll from suede leather, the saddle stitching is all by hand . Took awhile but I know it's strong and going to last a long time

Hey Small Trees, wrcmad & Peterb. Great work Guy's... Think I'm slowly moving towards the tool roll option....Hey Small Trees looks like a winner...If I was to for the tool roll option then I think I'd have to go for a similar size to hold my tools... Did you make yours out of leather or heavy canvas...?

Mine is made from suede leather. That way when you slide the tools in and out it is soft on the tools. When you invest good money into tools, look after them best you can. I thought canvas would be to abrasive.
