Seeking Tree ID and Training idea

Jonden, I'm not sure about Metrosideros but definitely not a Lilly pilli. Guys, you may not like this but I just changed my mind and wanted to test out the new tools I got for a present from my uncles (since my tools got stolen).
I have chopped it down as inspirated by one of jamie's virts and have carved and made some jins. Not sure how it would affect the health of the plant but as I said I picked it up from the side of the road, up rooted and half dead so what much do I have to lose ?
One thing I am sure is I have a lot to learn about making jins to look more natural. So, Pup, is there any Bonsai focus issue that feature jin-making???

nice work DK! as much as i agreed to lett it boom a bit more ohwell with your jin mate you have got your basic shape on them now. what you have to do to make it look more natural is the fine carving work, its a tedious task and can take a long time but its worth it when it is pulled off well. just do bits at a time, you can take it off but putting dead wood back on isnt easy. like i said just do bits at a time, step back look at it then if ya not happy keep working it. bits at a time. slow and steady mate. thats the key!

Um, not as such Ken, there's a farmer who owes us some sheep, and a butcher who owes us some favours, so its cheap lamb chop time. They are up doing the messy work at the moment, and sheep will be returned neatly cut up in time for Sunday party.
Son opted out of helping with this bit, he will just be in line for clearing up the mess
Butcher is also available for Christmas parties (really, he is a professional Santa..) I don't think he takes his tools of trade tho!

now i know you done all that carving work but i started playing with the image you got there and have come up with something that i think works. some different angles of the tree might help to give me a different perspective but padding just didnt seem to work for the tree. it was "unbalanced" as such with pads, hence the full canopy. i think this works well

just an idea. i am sure with seeing different angles of the trees i will see different avenues for it too!

Thanks mate. The bit is a rotary chisel with 1/8" shank for dremel. You could get them in 1/4" or larger shank for using in ordinary drills. They were bought from http://www.rotarychisel.com/info.html . The smaller bit cost $18 and the larger one is $27.

Look nice jamie. However, I think this type of plants (whatever it is we don't know yet) does seem to have problem forming dense foliage. I will wait to see how it recovers and back bud. Lets hope it won't just ...die first

yea mate, i am going on what i see in the trunk etc. i dont know the habit of the tree etc. so its hard untill we can get a positive ID.

but yes. spot on about keeping it alive first!!!

No worries mate. They really work and are worth every buck. Most of the dremel bits I bought from bunnings now proved useless comparing to these. The who carving job took me less than 7 minutes. I timed myself
