I have to say I'm not that good at Bonsai (yet) but Moss is no problem for me! Now I'm wondering is this too much and may be damaging the plant not letting oxygen into the soil?

Re: Too much Moss?
Air and water both flow through moss so that's not a problem. There are some who believe that moss can keep the mix a bit too wet over winter but with a good mix drainage should not be a problem.
I would enjoy your moss and not worry.

Re: Too much Moss?
I gereally take most of it off when it gets to cover the full pot like that.
I give it Ray Nesci for his sale pots

Re: Too much Moss?
Looks good, I keep it from growing up the trees base and trunk as much as possible, it moistens, softens and does damage to the bark.

Re: Too much Moss?
I have this amount on all my trees at this time of year. The weather here in Melbourne is great for moss and mushrooms/fungi at the moment. Never had any adverse effect on any of my trees. Once I start potting/repotting, in the next couple of months I will use the moss from various pots for the new repots come Spring and Summer the black birds will thin it out
Great oaks from little acorns grow.

Re: Too much Moss?
I agree with Shibui, take a trip to Tara Valley near Yarram and see all the trees thriving with huge growth of moss. It is a natural relationship and not damaging to trees.

Re: Too much Moss?
Thank you! I ended up removing it .. I was scared it would keep the soil too moist...
