I got given about collected ones 20 last week and root pruned them real hard, so hope so :-) :fc:
this page in the WIKI recommends late winter / spring https://www.ausbonsai.com.au/wiki/index. ... =Repotting
As my garden really sunny and warm I do most winter spring potting at anytime thru the winter.

I can't see any problem with root pruning Buxus now. I prune tips of all trees whenever they need it and I have time - no calendar needed.

Thread grafts are done while the shoots are dormant because the leaves get in the way when you try to thread the scion through a hole in summer. If you're happy to cut all the leaves off really close to the stem you can also thread graft in summer. I'm sure they would heal up quicker while actively growing. Might take longer if done now but it should be healed earlier (because you started earlier  )

Thanks Ken and Shibui. I'll get onto the root work soon i guess. I am wondering if i start the thread grafts now given that there is no active growth at the moment, what if the wound heals on itself and does not allow the graft to take.

How can a thread graft heal on itself? If there is a branch threaded through the hole then it must eventually heal on the graft? That's one of the advantages of thread graft. It doesn't matter how long it takes, eventually the scion must be absorbed by the stock.
After considering for a moment I think I can see what you are considering - something like an ear piercing healing up to leave a hole separate from the stud? Rest assured, trees are not ears. Your thread graft will continue to heal up until the thread hole is completely closed and the growing cambium of both scion and stock will be forced to merge when they have been together for long enough.

Thanks guys. Yes i was thinking about it as an ear piercing and stud scenario. You've explained it well.

Is Sydney warm enough to work on figs yet. Root work or trimming etc only.
