Heard somewhere it is particularly important to seal cuts on prunus. Is it true? Why?

Some prunus species are particularly susceptible to infections that can cause things like gummosis. Sealing wounds, especially in winter and spring can keep the diseases out until the tree heals up a bit.
Cherry, apricot are particularly susceptible. Plums are more resistant I think.
