Autumn trim

Post by shibui »

Leaves have fallen off many of the deciduous bonsai over the past few weeks here at Shibui Bonsai which means its time to start annual detailed trimming of the older bonsai.
Some of the younger trees still don't have extensive branching so those don't take too long. Just snip off any long internodes, upward and downward shoots, any new shoots from the trunk that don't fit the plan and any thicker branches near the top.

The larger trees take a bit longer as they generally have more branch ramification.

The older trees have developed intricate ramification with a network of delicate twigs and many of them need snipping so those take quite some time and concentration.
