Hi Peter,
I noticed in the first cut back photo the branches seem a bit longer compared to the pic where it is starting to leaf out. Was it cut back again once all the buds popped or did you cut back hard initially?
Great looking tree!

Hi Peter.

Fantastic tree and look forward to seeing next years advances.

I feel I'm not really worthy to comment of a tree of this calibre but I will nonetheless!

Had you considered a pot change? I think a more rustic natural pot from a local Australian potter might lift this to yet higher highs!
I just wonder if the existing is a bit too clean cut and traditional for this tree.

The Pot is a PK pot. I am considering putting it back in the original PK pot

Peter

I do love this species. Looking good Peter.

I remember seeing this wonderful specimen:

http://www.cbs.org.au/Native_Shows/bons ... tml#eucnic

which really got me intrigued in them. The look of a strong healthy Eucalyptus can be beautiful, but I love the look of most Eucalyptus when they are displayed with the accentuation on the trunk and I particularly like when the style is mimicked to convey the extremities of an unforgiving environment.

Update,

This year I changed the pot back to the original one. When this was done it was recovering well but a week into the recovery we had a hail storm which removed many of the new branches.

Kind Regards,

Peter

Dare I say it, the damage makes it look even more like a genuine Australian Eucalypt... heart-breaking as it may seem to lose those limbs....

Inspiring thread, Peter!

That is a shame Peter. :palm: But it will take on an interesting look in a few years time now. Such is the nature of .. nature.

Hard to make out, but looks like the trunk copped a bit of damage to the bark. Though, regardless... that trunk is very beautiful.

I need so many more natives in my collection, thanks for the inspiration.

Much prefer the reversion to this pot too.

I have missed this post entirely Peter.
Thought it deserved another :bump:
Awesome progress shots.
Just wondering if those finer branches couldn't use a little more movement.
Cannot say I am familiar with this species as a tree but the Eucs I keep an eye on around me are twisting turning and quite random in their search for sun.
I personally am trialling some Eucs myself and the branch structure is difficult to capture, just me and my :2c:

This is not a criticism of your tree at all, I LUV IT.

Hi Watty,

I am generally a little cautious with the weaker branches until they have more foliage. Once healthy I will put a little more movement into them.

It stands currently at 900mm. Leaves range from 10mm to 200mm.
