Rainbow eucalyptus

I was just wondering if anyone has grown or seen a rainbow eucalyptus bonsai. Is love to grow one but it seems like seeds are all thats available in australia.
Any info is much appreciated.

Ive read that trunks only need to be 1/2 an inch to start producing the rainbow trunk. Some people get confused because the bark itself isn't rainbow it's the trunk underneath which shows when the bark is peeling off. All very interesting...

I have just looked up this species on the WEB. They have amazing colours. I had never heard of them before. I hope you will be able to find some. Looking at the colours has stirred me to see If I can find one also.

As far as I know, that link that I gave is the only place in Aus that stocks them, from what I've heard they seem to be quite hard to get here. Seem to be pretty popular of late though, have seen a few people asking about them

The colours are amazing, would be curious to see if they do colour up quickly

I've been told when they are felled, little fairies fly out of them too.



Would be a great gift for a young child to get them into bonsai. Though I can't imagine the bark getting that colour from an early age. It would be awesome if it did.

Oh well i took the plunge and got some seeds of ebay. Aussie seller. Can't wait to see if these sprout.

Just remember that it's tropical - Cairns/Bris should be good, might be marginal in Sydney. Will be interesting to find out. What is the leaf size?

(Far less dramatic, but the Angophora Costata at the NBPCA gets wonderful green/yellow/brown/red bark when the rain hits it, just after the old bark has shed. Search NBPCA, "Ted's Angophora" or something. The bark is very seasonal, it's a real feature.)

Yeah I bought some seeds today too. Apparently they're a little finicky but the person selling them lives in Vic so maybe it's just too variable with the temperature there.

Looks like someone got out with a few cans of spray paint.

Will be interesting to see how these go. Looks like they are very fast growers in the right conditions. May have to get some just to play with....

Wow, up until now I'd never heard of this variety. I understand that it is the only variety of Eucalypt indigenous to the northern hemisphere. Amazing colours though!!!
