I love Gumtree - except for the timewasters - always a bargain to be had! Following on from my previous Gumtree gumtree, here is Gumtree gumtree mark II (stop saying "gumtree"), a nicetwin trunk.
I saw this ad pop up from a lady who had a roughly 2.5m tall self-sown gumtree in her back yard that she wanted removed, otherwise she'd need to kill it. I sent her a message and she came back and said others had told her the roots would be too large and deep to transplant. Since she was going to have to dig it out to get rid of it anyway we agreed it was worth me trying to transplant it.
Being a eucalypt there was a trunk-thick tap root going straight down, but also some finer roots near the surface. I cut the tap root, chopped the foliage and potted it up. A very rough guess would be river red gum, based on the leaves and statistics, but can't say for sure.
Now for plenty of water and crossed fingers.
