G'day,
Picked up this Lemon Scented Tea Tree today as I liked the movement and already had some great branching in the right places.
Asking for people's advice on where they would cut it?
As you can see where the trunk divides into two it has a fair bit of reverse taper so was thinking somewhere below that point.
When propped on an angle this branch that grows vertical could perhaps be the new leader?
Thanks
Chris.

Re: Leptospermum decisions
Finally! Someone else playing with a weeping tea tree!
Ive been looking everywhere to see other peoples stylings.
I stumped my madidum as i didnt see any obvious leaders. Im leaning towards one of the two on the left so as to keep some of that trunk movement.

Mate, I think you have a few trees in that if you're up for air layering it. Do leptos air layer well?
I'd throw 2 on this guy. Starting from the ground up:
1. I would set one just above the first right branch. This will give you taper, which helps to show age.
2. I would set just below the split, which will give you a nice twin trunk.
that is. I look forward to seeing whatever you decide.

Re: Leptospermum decisions
I'm undecided if I will try to air layer this or not?
According to this thread advice is to try it in autumn and avoid summer: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9904

Autumn isn't too far off mate. And don't forget, bonsai isn't a race.
Waste not want not.

Yeah I studied the picture a lot more after posting that and I do like that bulge at the split, it will have nice taper if the air layer takes.

Re: Leptospermum decisions
Have a couple of these myself, they bark up nice and early, and gives a nice look of age.
I like your suggestion on where to cut, keeps the taper nice and continues the flow of the trunk line
