Watto, that's just how I look....
All in 100% pumice, soaking in Seasol till tomorrow morning. And no, I'm not worse for wear. I'm up for an elm dig next weekend....
The big one had massive taproots that took a little time and brute force to dislodge, but you couldn't just leave it there. It's a semi-cascade penjing ready made. Could be 150cms long, won't be much shorter in the long run.

(Grant - what's this OLD rubbish? Barely a day over 87.)

I'd love to see more of these (and there was one Victoria even better!)
... from seeing the amount of participants and cars I'd call that a 'bonsai muster'

My first dig and what a ripper. Went down hoping for a monster, fortunately i found one of those 2 people to carry types.

Thanks again Watto and the Goulburn bonsai crew I had a great time . For you guys that weren't there I have to tell you Watto is a great host he spent the morning walking around with his chainsaw chopping and giving everybody a hand. Cheers for your hospitality.
There was definitely some great material leaving the paddock.big and small. Ken thanks for the lift .

Thanks Josh I will do that for sure.
I took Photos of all the trees this morning so upload them all for you.
I was only collecting trees I could carry in 1 hand, as I am turning 50 this year and when these are decent to display, I want to still be able to move them easily

the young bucks were digging trees you could hardly get in the truck
far to big for me.
Each of these are up to 4 inches or so across the base and good Basal flare, and assuming they recover well, will be nice in only few short years.

I removed two trunks, two more than I had in the start
Can we do it again next year, I found a hollow trunk that I cut back and left
Great to catch up with people, well done the people who turned up had a great time.
Will see you in October for the bonsai show.

G'day.
Is anyone who was on this dig, and removed any Hawthorns, seeing bud burst on their trunks.
Asking because I have one that has bud swelling.
Is this normal for this species of tree?
I removed 2 trunks one is showing bud swell and the other nothing.
Both are in the same soil mix, with same watering, one meter from each other full sun.
Pictures to come tomorrow.

Some awesome trees there Ken. I love that twin trunk. I love your idea of small trees
the paddocks around are full of hawthorn but have not been able to find an owner to ask permission. After seeing this might have to look a bit harder.

Sometimes they just burst into life Irish, but a few of them just sit and sulk for a while. I try not to water the sulky ones too much but you will find that eventually they will bud, but I have know it to take months for a few.

Thanks Watto, sounds a bit like my dug Olives. One went nuts in a month, the other took four months to show anything.

Both of the trees I collected were quite large and both are starting to bud now as well I am hitting them with plenty of seasol almost each time I water. I will get some photos up soon.
