Just got home and can upload some pics for you.
The dig was real easy in nice raised garden beds :-)

Also got 2 small 400mm Buxus too :-)

Now home i will soak in Seaso till this arvo and then Reduce the roots some more and then pot up.
Lots of roots came out with them so success should be assured despite the hot weather in Sydney. They will go in light shade until they show good new growth .

Those are super healthy looking trees in the 'before' shot, and stacks of potential. Nice dig.

Will you repot into big garden pots? And if so will you use a good bonsai soil mix or just a bulk potting mix or the likes?

Ahh Nope.
Once they recover and have a defined plan as to their final design, I will repot into smaller Bonsai containers as they need.
Like all my trees, they are now in Diatomite / Zeolite mix, and that will be what they will be in when finally potted as Bonsai ( in 4 years or so)

I see. I have my bonsai in a Diatomite/ Megumi bonsai soil mix, 50/50 split. Been wondering if I should be using this mix on my pre bonsai or be cheapskate and train them in potting mix. Thanks. Cheers, Ben

Ken, that stump looks familiar.
I believe I purchased it from you at the last AusBonsai Market.
Funny story. I was carrying it to my car and the foam box broke. Soil mix all over the car park. Because of its height I had to put the stump in the box on the back seat of my Mazda 6 then put the soil back in, drive it home, then take it back out of the box. Then positioned the box and then put the stump back in...
Then gave it a big feed of Seasol each day for a week or so.
It has continued to shoot so I'm very excited about its prospects.
I have been searching for tips on trunk selection etc come spring. Any suggestions on where I can get advice?
Maybe an update on here?
It would be an interesting subject.

Hey Jimbo that is funny :-)
they are bullet prof and I suggest take a series of shots from just above the soil level showing the trunks and branches and post a new thread on here with them.

Let the guys here come up with some suggestions to help out

Create a new thread for your own tree so that you can track its own progress without getting off topic posts.
would be nice to create a link back to this one so it can be found later on tho

I should update this one with new pics of the 2 I have left to highlight the recovery so far

I have cleaned up both of the remaining ones now and they have a definite direction to them.
I have cut back the long trunks to a convenient branch an sealed them.

Good feed, lost of water and in only few short years they will be quite nice :-) :fc:
They could be cut back further, but I prefer to see Murraya as a larger tree due to the compound leaves.
Note I had both these on sale at the market day, and suspect they will return next year at a higher starting price :-)
