Out Of Season Collecting

Post by Webos »

Gday Guys,
looking for any hints on collecting out of season. In the next few months I may have the opportunity to collect some garden grown stock but it will be when the trees are in full leaf in the middle of their growth phase.

Thanks

This question is asked often!. The answer I give is can you wait till later so you can defoliate? what species?
If they are as in many cases going to be dug out or bulldozed then you cant wait.
So it is a matter of getting as much rootball as you can. Reduce the foliage by half at least.
Then plenty of TLC, till they recover. Hope this helps you in some way. :)

depending on species, you may be able to do heaps of damage.

 but the survival of any yama is all to do with the aftercare you give it...

If that is the case then try. If you don't they will surely perish. Just do the best you can.
Good luck I have dug a bottlebrush in full flower. It now resides in the National Bonsai and Penjing collection and thriving.
I am happy to say. As I said get as much of the roots as you can and can carry reduce by half and hope that your TLC works.

I have been advised that if you have to collect a deciduous tree in full leaf than be sure to defoliate it entirely. As other members have said, it is the after care that will make the difference. Good luck.
