HI,

A friend of mine has a few Pomegranate in his front yard and he offered for me to take one. I chose and took pictures of one and have a few questions.

1. Is it worth it? I am not sure what would be the age of this tree.
2. Best time to take it out?
3. Any advise on how to take it out?
4. Should I air layer it and then take the cutting or put the cutting back in it's place so another one grows there?

Trunk looks nice and thick or at least for a bonsai the right size.

Pomegranates make good Bonsai but i would leave the digging until next August/September. If you can prune it a little and spade around it that would be helpful. Dig around it away from the base give it some food and backfill with some potting mix ready for later this year.

Good question and it would depend on the size of the tree you want. Hard to say from the photo's and if i was doing it i would do a rough design while it is in the ground. For yourself maybe halve the tree's height allowing that the tree's fruit is quite large and do a little bit of study on tree design before you dig it next Spring.
