Hi All,

I was thinking of Airlayering a Golden Wattle which is on the side of the street near my friends place. So obviously the tree doesn't belong to me or my friend and the question is can i do it without any permission? Whats the best time?

Or another question. Can i goto a normal nursery that doesnt do Bonsai and buy some natives from there let's say 2-4met high and use them to create bonsai ?

they grow pretty fast 0.5-1.5m a year i think

Ive never seen a native that big at a nursery around here... i think most people just get small tube stock

A couple of problems you might have with the Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha?).

They don't grow at all easily from cuttings, so layering might be difficult. They don't shoot back on old wood, as a genus, so cutting back large stock can be dodgy. They don't live very long. And their leaves are large.

Sorry to be such a downer, but it might save you some wasted effort.

Maybe go to a native nursery, and get tube stock of small-leafed varieties. Melaleucas and Callistemons are relatively bulletproof, and a good place to start. Acacia howittii if you need a wattle.
