Acmena Smithii 'Minor' - Lilly Pilly

Post by The Surgeon »

Acmena Smithii ' Minor' - Lilly Pilly
Purchased today - 10 May 2017
From local Nursery
Cost $10

Whenever i go to my local nursery I always go to the back section to find the stock that is reduced. Mostly due to being in poor condition or have been there for a long time.

I got this one for a bargain!!!!

I was about 7 foot high.

First thing i did was chop is about 90cms from the base.

The trunk is quite straight but i could see that there may have been something interesting below the soil line. After removing the soil and a lot of root pruning i found this.

Into a grow pot.

Interesting truck shape.

Despite the time of year and the savage root pruning (severely pot bound) these things are almost indestructible, I'm sure it will bounce back. No doubt it will undergo a further chop to reduce the size, but for now it will rest. Lets see what $10 develops into.

Apologies for the photos, definitely taken in portrait, but some reason they are turned :(

Good luck with this one, the first year will be the most difficult and if it gets through OK it will be fine.
