There will be a lot of old gardens and farms your way they will be full of treasure. Plums are a good place to start they constantly put up suckers, ask the owners and most people will be happy for you to get rid of some.
Road side verges on country roads are fantastic as they are regularly cut back so can have some great machine designed trunks. People here will pipe up that it is illegal to dig there, but if it is a quite road I find that no one cares. Wear a high-vis vest and carry a clipboard :shifty: :shifty:.
I also find access roads along rail sidings are great, they get cut back less often than road verges and are out of the way. Yes, and probably illegal but in the hierarchy of social ills digging up weeds on public land ranks pretty low.
Cheers,
Symon

Hi Mikeereefs.
Are you in a Bonsai club?
I'm in the Nepean Bonsai Society in Penrith.
We sometimes have arranged digs on private property.
This is a good option.

There is one place I go every now and then.

The local tip!!

Explain to the guy/girl on the gate what you want to do and go forage among the green waste dumped by home gardeners. I have picked up a couple of yamadori by this method. And the digging is already done!!!!! Saturday afternoon and just before closing on Sunday is when you'll find most of the material.

Although most are usually battered ............and you never know how long they have been out of the ground.

Good luck
