New Acquisition

Post by Watto »

Yesterday I dug a largish large leaf privet. I don't really need another privet, but it was either I dig it or it was being rolled into the dumpster. Slackness prevented me from taking any photos of the dig and the first one is when it was at home. I put it in the barrow and washed off all the soil (bare-rooting it) and then gave the roots a reasonable trim. There were plenty of roots so it went straight into a bonsai pot but a new front will be needed at the next re-pot which will probably only be 12 months away. The weather yesterday was a shocker, blowing a gale, sleeting rain, freezing cold but the dig warmed me up and here is the reward.
If anyone has seen Harry Harrington's "videos" on carving, that is the look I'll be working towards over the next few years. Maybe I should have cut it down a bit lower before potting, oh well?

I don't have an artistic side John, but it will be fun looking for it.
I cut off all the branches that had foliage and gave it a good root prune after I bare rooted it so I will be interested in how it bounces back.
