Hey guys. I’m wanting to collect some lepto seeds. Anyone know where I can collect them in Victoria?

I have bought seedlings from ERA before and they are high quality and reasonably priced.
They do mail order and worthwhile if you would consider seedlings rather than seed

If youre looking for leptos to try as Bonsai, dont forget to drop in to Vic Native Bonsai Show next weekend.
Its the first show for a while where they will be selling so we should see some great stuff available

It would be an ideal opportunity to see what people are using for Bonsai before you buy also!

Cheers

Best spot to find leptospermum seed is on a leptospermum tree :D
Where to look will depend on what species you want:
look for L. laevegatum anywhere along the foreshore from SA to north NSW.
L. lanigerum grows along creeks and rivers in coastal and mountain areas. L. juniperinum in the same area but usually around swampy areas.
L. grandifolium in mountain parts along creeks and rivers.
L. myrsinoides in south and west Vic in heath and scrub on poor soils.

There are also lots of newer hybrids and cultivars in parks and gardens. Take a walk around your area and look for some hanging over front fences.

Most Leptospermum retain mature seed pods so you can collect seed at any time of year. New seed capsules will be closer to the ends of branches. Look back along the branches for older, darker seed capsules.

Hi Daluke,

This community-based nursery may be able to help. I have been there before for seedlings - not sure about collecting though.

Just an idea.
