coir/coco peat as an air layering medium

Anyone tried coir as an air layering medium? What kind of results did you have? I only ask because it seems be quite similar to sphagnum moss in that it holds water very well and is fibrous.

I've been packing my freshly cut olive stumps in coir, holds a lot of water, good for new root growth, cheap too, not sure if it has any fertilizers in it or not but this Olive was left in a tray of coir for 18 months with no added fertilizer just water and did really well, but then again Olives aren't normal plants.

hey mate, ive just done an air layer with coir peat on a big old juniper chinensis 4 weeks ago, at my tafe, and it is working very well, still moist, and i can see some roots coming into the peat,
its very much just as good as reall peat, very cheap and very abundant material over asia. this is a good question, thanks simo
