One thing I truly dislike here in the thinned out pic is the use of that grey putty on Azaleas.
A more liquid cut paste is the go and applied immediately.
That is cut, apply...Then the next cut and apply..and so it goes.
Azaleas dry at the wound so fast.
A lift from the pot only and 'new' decomposed acid Azalea mix around the perimeter of the pot with a saturation of seasol or grow plus in a 1.5 strength.
I have around 50 Azaleas in both potted flower and bonsai forms and quite often curl appears.
Heat/dry soil/bugs are all intertwined.
Heated pots cause dry soil cause plant and root stress cause bug attack.
Remedy
Cool pots and keep cool.
Saturate soil and keep moist.
Feed to de stress.
Prune all damage.
Seal all cuts and pruning to ensure plants don't exhale carbons threw dried out wounds.
Cross fingers and keep a vigilant eye out.
(
Healthy regrowth after leaf prune is indicated by flicking leaf stalks about a week after cutting leaves..If the stalk flies off a bud is created...If it stays put the bud is dead and the branch is following suit)
My take.
