Forum Etiquette

Post by Jon Chown »

PM’s (standing for Personal Messages) are the polite way of communicating on a forum.

While a forum is provided to encourage open discussion on various topics, there are times when a pm should be used and I encourage members to think about using them a little more. In particular, they should be used if……

You believe that what you are about to say would not have been said out loud in public.
You want to say something to a member which is not relevant to a topic or thread
You want to say something but are unsure if the comment may offend
Or anything else you just want to keep private.

You will know when someone has sent you a pm when you receive an email alert (if you have ticked the notification box in the User Control Panel when you signed up) or in the Top LH corner of Board Index page you will see this…

User Control Panel (0 new messages) • View your posts

If you click on the (new messages) a screen will open showing your messages

I have prepared this tutorial because I know that some members don’t know about this feature (well, either that or I’m on their ignore list)

Why don’t you visit soon?

Great post Jon.

I would also like to add that Private Messages are private and secure. They can not be read by Moderators, Administrators or Founders - only the sender and receiver.

Thanks Jon,
Being new to chatrooms I was not aware of this so the instruction is good and I'll take it onboard.

Hey Lee, I wrote this tutorial for you as I sent you a pm last week and it is still in my outbox and I'm beginning to get a personality complex.
