Leptolover, It sounds like Ray M has gone to some effort to write and self-publish a couple of books and is selling them at cost. I personally am appreciative of that effort and do not expect the knowledge for free in a format that I can easily reference when I need it in the future.
Ray M, as a bonsai book collector, I'm interested in your postage charges to VIC? What's your third book about?
Cheers Shane
Bonsai was meant to keep me away from the computer.
Hi Shane,
Thank you for your comments. Your right in how much is involved in preparing a book like this. Each of the books have taken over 12 months to prepare. For leptolover information, had he checked many of my other posts he would see that I have shared a lot of information and details.
With this post I did not suggest that people buy my book/books. A number of members have got in touch with me by PM to ask how they can get the books.
I am not preparing a third book at the moment. Steven had my first book and knew I was working on a second book. I think this is where the confusion arose.
I will check the cost of postage for you and let you know.
Hi Steven,
Yes mate your right, I did mention that to you. At this stage I am in the process of experimenting with the Eucalypts. I haven't started a book on this yet, as the experiment is taking quite a long time.

Sorry Ray, I thought the post was about doing a layer on a very special tree & how you went about it, the info may be posted in a prior thread but then if so why bother with a new one when this could have been added to it? Anywho, no worries... I will search all 172 posts by you to see what I can come up with.... Any suggestions on where to start? or just take my chances & hope to get lucky ?
Hi all,
Looks like the maples are going to survive. Even though it is not the best time of year some of the buds have burst into leaves. I also checked with Ray about the other trees, and they are all going okay.
If you look closely at the bottom of the colander you will see some roots starting to come through.

Hi Scott,
Here are some new photos. As you can see they are certainly slow growers. They all have some new growth showing.
I don't know if I mentioned, I have set another 12 layers on the tree. They should be ready about March 2014 to take off.
If I can get a couple more trees I am seriously thinking of making a small forest. I have seen some photos of them in a forest, and they look very nice. I would be able to enjoy them for several years and then possibly separate them as single trees again.

Hi Scott,
I was up at Ray Nesci's today. I went up to check all the layers that are on at present. I asked him how the layers he kept are going. He said they were slow also. He thinks they will need a year to establish their roots and should take off better this year. Time will tell.
I just a quick question about multiple layers if I may Ray.
I have a Taiwan maple (?) That I got off ebay. I've had it for just over a year from a seedling and it's already over 6 foot... The problem being it hasn't branched at all yet, still got foliage all the way up the trunk though. Would I be able to set multiplel ayers on the trunk with just the leaves but no branches?
Cheers Grant
