Sorry mate, but your knowledge is lacking in this case. Brachychiton are nothing like the Boabs depicted in the pics mate. And I really think you will find the Boabs which grow up around coaster's area are in fact Australian natives. In fact I believe they don't grow anywhere else in the world. But I will be corrected if I have that wrong.sweetcookie2013 wrote:I think you will find these are Australian Native Bottle Trees "Brachychiton rupensis". Boabs aren't native to Australia. Re: Big Boabs
You are correct Graham. They are native and as far as I know don't grow anywhere else. There are amazing trees. We got some boab nuts carved by an aborinal guy in Derby. They are awesome. Re: Big Boabs
My father recently brought back some Boab seeds from WA, and I have planted about half of them to see what I get. Will keep you posted if they grow.

Re: Big Boabs
Interestingly enough I have just ordered 3 little ones from a nursery here, 2 A gregorii and 1 A digiata(it could be vice versa though).
I have had a read through a few threads but no doubt will be after a few pointers when they get here.

Re: Big Boabs
Hi Guys
Attlia Kapitany has produced a magazine on Australian Bottle Trees & Boabs and although the Brachychiton Rupestris is not related to the boab they are both stunning trees I think you need to be north of the tropic of Capricorn to grow Boabs successful . So For the rest of us you can not go past the bottle tree.

Re: Big Boabs
So my delivery came yesterday and these little chaps were part of it.
Not much more than sticks in a pot for the moment and I think I might have to baby them over winter but they look healthy enough so hope I can keep them that way. The larger one is digiata and the two smaller ones are gregorii. Not really sure I should do anything to them until spring here, maybe just slip pot them up as the digiata at least has roots coming out through the pot.

Re: Big Boabs
The Aussie Boabs that grow up in Derby mostly live on the edges of rivers or on the mudflats, where they're clearly able to get access to the water table. However they also have to be able to put up with horrendous heat for most of the year, with masses of rain in the wet season. There are a couple growing in the Mt Coot-tha Botanical gardens, near the restaurant.... They've been planted on a well drained mound with all the "desert plants."

Re: Big Boabs
Yes I did, thanks srini! I spent a few days with a fabulous friend out on the mudflats, at both sundown and sun up.
