Thanks for sharing that Toni !! As a beginner I am guilty of not understanding the importance of this process and I'm sure it's appreciated by everyone.

Excellent tutorial, especially the various areas of the root ball being reduced ensuring maximum sap flow to thicken the trunk without disturbing the tree too much( removal of no more then a third rule). While Squamata is excellent for this type of root work , junipers such as shimpaku may suffer from this...

I believe this may be a sticky already, but I still think it's worth a bump for anyone that hasn't seen it. Great read

Thanks for the bump...just bought one for $6 extremly root bound, plenty of healthy growth on it....would you recommend me cutting the root ball in 1/2 and raking out? or just leave it for a season? would i also have to trim the foliage back? I just raked the sides and bottom out a bitPearcy001 wrote:I believe this may be a sticky already, but I still think it's worth a bump for anyone that hasn't seen it. Great read

This is an old thread but I just came across it - very helpful thank you. For us newbies, definitely worth a read from the start of this thread by Tony.Tony Bebb wrote:Hi All
I repotted the base tree from the 'Juniper Airlayer 2 for 1' post I did earlier, and took a series of pics to show how I will build up the nebari on this tree.
