Showing my Shohin

Post by Steven »

G'day all,

You are probably aware that I like mini's. In fact, about 70% of my tree's would be under 250mm tall.

In this thread I'll try to post regular updates of my shohin when I work on them.

Following are the tree's that I've worked on this week.

These are great! I particularly like your casuarina, you've manage to get the foliage so dense. Can I ask how long you have been working on developing it's ramification and foliage?

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

thanks Steven, fantastic examples...i'll be taking notes and asking annoying questions i'm sure....first one  when is the right time/age for a plant to be planted in a shohin pot, as in, is it better to train it in a larger pot and gradually reducing the root mass over say 3 years?. Second, how much soil is the minimum requirement for the plant to sit upon. Third and last (for the moment ;) ) other than liquid fert are ratio's of fert diminished by about what percentage roughly? thanks for your time :tu:

1. I usually put them into bonsai pots when the trunk is developed and pretty much as thick as I want it to be. With my open mix and generous fertiliser I find I can develop decent trees while in bonsai pots.
2. Each tree is different but you need room for the roots to grow.
3. All my trees get the same treatment. Fertiliser at full strength every 2 weeks.

Steven
