Birds nest air layer

Post by regwac »

Betty decided to give the Privet hedge a "small" trim and came an interesting bunch of roots about 1.5 metres above the ground . As near as we can figure there was a bird nest dating from Spring 2014 (!) and the Privet decided that was a good spot to try some roots . I threw it in the water barrel to keep it fresh until I could take a photo , when I pulled it out , it looked good enough to put in a pot . We will see how it goes .

I wonder if that sort of natural event inspired the first ever man made air layer? Thanks for sharing

Love this story regwac, and thanks for updating.
Just a question re Privets. I have one that was given to me as a stick in a pot and I have noticed that is seems thirstier than pretty much all my other plants.
The (open) mix is dry each day, although the plant has never wilted or looked sad. In fact it is growing well, as you would expect from a Privet.
I am wondering if I need to repot it again with warmer weather coming up?
Sorry for the thread hack.

Privet are vigorous and so need plenty of water . Maybe increase the water holding capacity of your mix a bit ? If the tree is happy and you are happy to water every day stick to that . Cheers Graham
