Since the last update I allowed the leader to grow and thicken but not much else has gone on. Time to see how much branching you can grow on an elm before the comp ends.

Below soil this one has certainly improved, nebari and roots are on the up!

The texture of the upper bark is also improving as time goes by, maybe it will come out ok although that may be after the timeline is over.

Once the roots have settled it will be time to see how much fert these guys can take!!ImageImageImageImageImage

Ripped this one out before it got settled in order to change the front by a few degrees. I didn't realise until I uploaded the last lot of photos.

Final competition update.

This one will be no winner in its current state. I have chosen to leave the leader long in order to thicken for the future of the tree, rather than chopping down for this comp. Tree will end up around the 15-17cm mark in the end.

Quite happy with the movement in this one, once the branching can be formed in the coming 12 months I think it will show itself to be on its way to the beginnings of a nice little shohin.

Looking forward to all that bark thickening over time and eventually raising the tree up to show the nebari. In the future I may even consider tilting the tree to the right for a more windswept tree, time will tell.

Cheers,
Pearcy.
