So going on some advice from earlier in this thread and some encouragement from others at the school last night I have cut the left hand side of this tree. I think it works well

I don't know how it looks in the bark however in the pic the first branch looks almost as thick as the trunk.
Perhaps you should consider removing it?

Love the character of this tree mate.
Awesome trunk.
I think the new design is more in keeping with the the feel of the trunk.
Well done.

Hi all.

Have been fairly slack getting my tree threads updated. This privet needs potting twice maybe three times a year. So it’s probably due. Has just had another trim. Has been put in a new pot since the last update. I think it matches ok. Pot is by Denise Allan.

Nice work squiz.
That's a great pot for that tree.

2 or 3 repots a year??? You gotta be kidding. That's dedication. I'm never owning a privet :o

....Ditch these poncy privets (joke) and grow more Banksia as per our discussion at the Ausbonsai Market Day. :tu:

Seriously though, the colours work beautifully on that tree mate.

I said it needs it Rory. I didn’t say it gets it. You know me better than that.

Just about to see what banksias are on offer at plants plus west pennant hills. ;)

hahaha

If it was me I'd give a miss on dwarf banksia varieties. The foliage is so cute, but the tree just isn't hardy from my experiences.
They are more prone to root rot, fertilizer problems and general root work from my experiences.

Good privet Squizzy, and good pot too. However I don't think they go together. I think the privet would look better in a shallower pot, it sits a bit too high in this one. Just my 2c worth

Good work Watto.
It’s amazing what you don’t see in your own trees sometimes. I agree. Although I think the colour matches really well.
