I couldn't find the original topic so here an update on this Shimpaku . Its been left to recover after a heat wave 2 years ago almost killed it

, Plenty of damage but it has recovered enough to rip into it again

trimmed and wired for another 12 months , I'll be watching the temps this Summer .

Thats a lot of foliage you've removed. What are your aftercare plans?

Hi adge001 , mate no aftercare , simply put it back on the bench , move onto the next tree be it a maple , juniper or a pine and carry on regardless . Everything plant here is treated the same , when they need a trim they usually get one , most of the stock here has already had a trim or candle snap or re-pot or all of the above in the last 2 months , it never stops growing unless I kill it .

Hi anthonyW, yes mate that is the front . I'm not responsible for the trunk movement , it is as purchased from Matthew many years ago . I have simply removed the bar branches and crossed roots and built a new apex .

I was thinking of a Phoenix graft adding some deadwood or possibly layering the top off for a shohin tree , then rebuild the whole upper section , cos i can

It almost cooked over summer 2 years ago hence its back into a training pot to further its education . Plenty of cuttings taken this time around just to add to the stock here . It was over 30 yo when I purchased it , be close to 40 now

I was thinking a maybe a bit more dynamic, by compressing and removing bottom two to show it dancing more as in viewing the the nice curve.

Just an idea for you any way.

Hi Anthony , mate like the vert . The 2 lower branches are weak and stubs look like the only alternative to re-growing them .

Cutting the head off would also improve the ratio trunk to height .

Another idea I like is rip it down the middle and create a Phoenix graft by adding a nice juni stump , got a few of them laying around here .
