Kunzea Baxteri Group Planting

Post by Fengz »

Hi all, fairly new to Bonsai. Have found a love for Australian Natives, this is my first post on here seemed fitting to show my first group planting, any advice on Baxteri is welcomed.

good fun innit?- :tu: --- just a thought with groups. I feel the movement of all the trees in the group need to be not exactly the same but similar.I would put some twists and turns to be in sync with the left hand tree.not sure with these but a lot of natives become brittle quite quickly so bends should be made early on.

Thanks Watto.!!

Thanks for your input TG I did plan on adding some more movement but didn’t consider how rapidly the trunk and branches may harden off.

I only did this group a couple of weeks ago (full sun all day and into a greenhouse at night for recovery) was letting it recover and if stressed show some signs before I started to manipulate these Kunzea any further.

The left tree I wired light on the trunk immediately because the way the roots lay and how I had to secure it in the pot (which as fun as the process is was rather tricky) didn’t allow for me to give it the same flow so a little wiring around the trunk was needed, another couple weeks of letting them rest and I’ll be sure to give the others some more movement and update the post :tu:

Welcome Fengz.

I love a group/forest and I hope you get enjoyment from this group.

+1 on what tgward said and I am not sure of Kunzea Baxteri react the same way as Kunzea ericoides but my ericoides love to sit in an 1" plus of water, especially in Spring and Summer through their growing season... that said, they never seem to stop growing! Perhaps something to consider when these have settled in ...
Tending bonsai teaches me patience.
