[FAQ]How to attach a file? Tutorial with pictures.
First of all, we need to know what kind of file can we upload. Basically all different types of files such as .jpg, .gif, .mp3, .doc, .xls and so on...but I think most of us are only interested in attaching bonsai related pictures and share with everyone here.
Now we just use attaching a picture as an example.
We need to know there are 2 ways to share your pictures. The first way is "attach" a file. The second way is "show a picture from an external source". We will explain both ways hereafter.
First way: "attach" a file.
Using this way will upload your picture to ausbonsai.com.
Currently the restriction of attaching a file is outlined below:
Maximum file size of each file: 2Mb
Max attachments per post: 20
Max attachments per private message: 5
A thumbnail will be created in all possible situations.
Maximum thumbnail width in pixel: 650px
Minimum thumbnail file size (Do not create a thumbnail for images smaller than this.): 20Kb
Maximum image dimensions: no limit.
To start attaching files:
Second way: "show a picture from external source".
Using this way means you don't actually upload anything to ausbonsai.com but quote a picture from another website or your photo album. This also means you might need a space or album to store these pictures first. Some sites such as Photobucket are pretty good place to publish your photos. Google picasa is also popular.
To quote a file: If the width of your picture is greater than 700px then it will be automatically resized. The full size picture will be shown by clicking that resized picture. Example: see this post: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=29
Any other question please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: [FAQ]How to attach a file? Tutorial with pictures.
I've found the 'Upload' button, I've tried to attach a photo but it was rejected. Reading the Ausbonsai destructions the max I can upload is 2mb. What I don't understand [among a galaxy of other things] is why some of my photos are 625 kb and the next is 2.8mb? Different cameras - does that account for it. My knowledge does not extend this far. Any advice? How do I reduce the photos to the allowed limits??

Re: [FAQ]How to attach a file? Tutorial with pictures.
Hi Grant,
The orientation of the photo is governed by metadata that is saved along with the image by digital cameras, phones, scanners etc. You can read more about it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exif. Just like the photo, the Exif data (metadata) can be edited or stripped out in some cases where the data field is simply descriptive such as the date the photo was taken or the device that captured it.
Most software that is used to edit photographs can also manipulate (and show) the metadata. If you let me know which platform you are on (MACOS, windows, linux), I can make some suggestions.
cheers

Re: [FAQ]How to attach a file? Tutorial with pictures.
Hi,
I took the photos on an IPhone and am working on an Apple IPad Pro.
I found if I altered the photo it presented upright; but if I attached the photo unaltered it goes sideways.

Re: [FAQ]How to attach a file? Tutorial with pictures.
Generally the orientation of the image depends on whether the picture was taken with the device in landscape or portrait orientation. By altered, do you mean rotated or other things as well like cropping? Here is the image from your ginko post rotated
I'm surprised you can just attach images without at least reducing the size. Could be an iphone thing. All of my android images are far too bigYou do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: [FAQ]How to attach a file? Tutorial with pictures.
I cropped that photo and the IPad allows you to choose the size of photo when posting, but the uncropped photo, even when reduced in size, still turned sideways.
I guess Ill just have to crop all photos.

Re: [FAQ]How to attach a file? Tutorial with pictures.
Try the instructions here https://www.wikihow.com/Rotate-Photos-W ... Photos-App. You should be able to simply rotate photos without cropping directly within the photos app. Hope this works for you
