360° Bonsai

In today's modern era, bonsai are widely viewed on the internet, in magazines and in books. These methods of viewing are two dimensional (2D) and can not be compared to actually viewing a bonsai in real life. Would you rather view bonsai in 2D or be able to walk around them and see everything the artist has crafted and everything the tree has to offer? Must a bonsai only be viewed from the front or should they be able to be viewed from 360 degrees like living three dimensional sculptures? More like 360 degree bonsai!

What exactly is 360 degree bonsai you might ask...

First and foremost, I am not trying to be controversial and suggest that we need to drop the rules of a bonsai having a best front, sides and back. I am merely saying that bonsai should be able to be enjoyed from all angles. When I see a magnificent tree in nature that I like, I will walk around the tree and admire/study it from all sides. Sure, there is usually one preferred 'front' however all sides are interesting. The same goes for our bonsai, the sides and back must also appear credible.

Previously, no true sense of balance could be achieved from viewing bonsai online... until now...

I have just been blown away by the 360 bonsai veiw, is it of your making or did you find it else where. Mate if it is of your making I hope you have a copyright on it.
To be honest, till now, every forum i had visited where all the same, but Steve you have crated a unique Forum & 360 veiw is now going to be the way we will all veiw our trees online & we all owe you a very big thank you.
It will now be interesting to see how long it takes for the other fourums to catch up with your forward thinking.

This is a brilliant way to show a tree in its entirety! A 'warts and all' view, if you will. Not only does it bring the viewer a better understanding of the structure of a given tree (however physically remote it may be), but it also provides a great tool for the 'artist' to work out how best to improve their Bonsai. Great stuff!

Is there any way for the casual viewer to isolate or capture a given view, or to know exactly how many degrees one has rotated from the 'front' view? If it is possible to include this info, I think it might help discussions about the trees in question.

I need to get a better turntable (and some better trees) and start taking photos...

It's ours Skip, from concept to creation all in the AusBonsai office. Other forums might have been around longer than AB.C but we're revolutionary

If anyone's keen to see their bonsai in 360°, send a picture of the proposed tree to threesixty@ausbonsai.com. We'll try to do as many as possible but work comes first. It only takes about 30 minutes of prep time by you then we'll do the rest free of charge.

I am very impressed. Once a tree is accepted for this treatment, how many photos are required to make this work? Also, would you consider using it for a piece of material that has not been trained, so viewers can get a realistic view before offering advice?
