This bonsai was an overgrown plant left in a nursery pot for far too long. I have no idea of the age but guess it to be about 12 to 15 years.

In October 2007 I decided to try and style it. It had two large trunks and I removed the one on the right leaving a stump type jin.

Nothing more has been done to the tree until February 2010 when it was root-pruned and placed in the Chinese hand made rock pot and rewired.

The caterpillars damage this bonsai in a similar manner to the way they nest in my melaleucas. It is best for the environment if they are removed by hand, but if too many trees are infested then a light spray with Confidor is the next best option .

This tree is a water lover and during summer it sits in a shallow tray of water which is flushed clean every day. In winter it is removed from the water tray but the soil is never allowed to dry out.

I love rock pots and usually make my own but this one was hand-made in China.

There are two photos below , and if I can work the uploading correctly the first will be how the tree looked in Oct 2007 after its first wire and shape and the second will be how the tree looked when today (27 March 2010)
