Can't believe how rare they are. They should be mopre common as they natives to Australia and very hardy.
Chinese Bonsaist like them very much as they mimic the weeping willow which is so highly regarded in the Chinese Culture. I saw some in a Bonsai nurseries, very expensive. Australians, esp Victorians, have them as natives are really fortunate.
They have the potential to rival the icon of Japan, the white pine. Unfortunately, Aussie seems not paying much attention to it. I have a few myself, everytime I ask chinese guest which one they like most in my collection, they all point towards Acacia Howittii Prostate, without exception.

Re: [WANTED]Acacia Howittii Prostate UPTO $1000
They aren't that difficult to find. I have 2 young ones. I see them at bonsai and general nurseries around Sydney.
Acacia howittii is rare in the wild. A. howittii prostrata doesn't exist in the wild..... so being native doesn't change anything (plus it is illegal to dig up natives from the wild anyway). The problem with Acacia howittii prostrata is that they are difficult to strike from cutting. The lower the success, the more time wasted taking cuttings that fail. Time is money so they cost a little bit more than other Acacias. For this reason, nurseries will often just buy other Acacias for resale.

The Sticky Wattle (A. howittii) is indigenous in my area. I'm thinking a field trip for seed (or self seeders) is in order......

Do i have a plethora of pinatas?

Bonbon,
I personally don't think that Sticky Wattle has much potential as a bonsai species, despite being a relitively attractive plant in the landscape.
That would be as likely as Justin Bieber kicking The Beatles out of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
Cheers,
Mojo

I totally agree with that Mojo. The Acacias can look allright but will never out class the Japanese White pines!
