I have some already in pots if anyone wants them. They are smaller then these bushes. And would be pot bound.

Well, the dig was today, and Mel and Pierre + family came and worked very hard for their Yamadori. Clay soil and massive roots meant it was very hard work.

Thanks to Pierre and Mel for your constant good cheer and hard work.
And, thanks to my neighbour for showering us with refreshments and being such a good host.
:fc: all of these monsters take off!

Fingers crossed indeed!!

Thanks so much for alerting us to these trees, @Redsonic, they were a lot larger than we thought, that's for sure! Thank goodness for the strength and youth of @Pierre, and all your hard work too. Cheers to Sarah for letting us remove them. :)

I've *never* seen such massive roots on a murraya!!!!!!!

Indeed it was hard work, but a fantastic opportunity to meet you and learn as well. I have potted 1 and the other 2 are in a "bucket" of Seasol, as i need to buy a reciprocating saw tomorrow to finish the job. I will do my best to get these trees to a healthy life...
Thanks again heaps everyone.
Pierre

@Pierre I used my saw this morning, I'd suggest you get a slightly bigger one if possible, since this little piddler probably won't have enough grunt to get through the underside of that monster.

I've potted my two up, and apart from a nasty group of aphids or something under some of the new growth, the remaining shoots are still looking reasonably happy.

Still got fingers, toes and eyes crossed!

Thanks again to you all!

Well, here's a peek at the two Murraya plants I took from the dig. The larger of the two has really started to throw out a lot of new foliage, whereas the smaller one is still to power on, but it's still alive, at least.

I'm guessing I really should wait a year or so before trying to cut them down to size...

Looking forward to catching up with Redsonic and Pierre next week, and to see how Pierre's trees are going.

Congrats Mel, good to see they survived. Looking forward to posts over the next 10 years or so as they develop.

That's great news to hear they are going to continue to give you pleasure Mel. Especially since I had to remove a large one from my front yard the other day as well. ;)

Cheers Graeme! Funnily enough I've dug up much smaller ones and had them turn up their toes quick smart....

I'm a little surprised these have survived, considering how hard we were on them... (and how hard they were on us!!!!!!!!)

That's great news Mel. Credit to your after care dedication, considering how few roots they had on...

Credit to you for doing most of the hard digging Pierre!!! I wouldn't have stood a chance against that iron hard clay.

Excellent result
I concur, leave them till next winter to cut back again and select your future trees design.
