Re: [WANTED] Sekka dwarf hinoki
Not sure if there about the Sekka. Trevor at Bonsai Art does have dwarf hinoki. Give him a call to save yourself a trip.

Re: [WANTED] Sekka dwarf hinoki
I have one of Trevor’s dwarf Hinoki and I’m certain it’s not Sekka. I’ve not seen Sekka available even through rare plant or specialist nurseries.

Sekka is not available in Australia at this stage but given recent posts neither was itoigawa and chojubai only arrived within the last 10yrs so give it time for the "knowledgeable" to use loopholes

Is the recent animosity cross contaminating into other threadsElmer wrote:Sekka is not available in Australia at this stage but given recent posts neither was itoigawa and chojubai only arrived within the last 10yrs so give it time for the "knowledgeable" to use loopholes

Just looked it up. The foliage reminds me a bit like a Thuja but more compact and plump. Quite interesting

No animosity KCAR, more a sad reflection on the state of this hobby and the world at large where desire and greed rule. People keep secrets for two main reasons, to avoid recriminations for illegal/amoral acts or to protect their ability to profit.Keep Calm and Ramify wrote:Is the recent animosity cross contaminating into other threadsElmer wrote:Sekka is not available in Australia at this stage but given recent posts neither was itoigawa and chojubai only arrived within the last 10yrs so give it time for the "knowledgeable" to use loopholes

It is an incredibly compact form of Chamaecyparis that is faster growing than the nearest available in Australia, Chamaecyparis obtusa Nana Nana which is incredibly slow to develop (approx 1cm of growth in a good year)Max wrote:Just looked it up. Re: [WANTED] Sekka dwarf hinoki
We are talking the same dwarf variety? If it's been here that long it is the biggest secret plant in the Australian nursery industry which my sources have been involved with for almost 50yrstreeman wrote:

I'd love a chojubai but i fear that unless i got a well established one i wouldn't have enough years left to do much with it

Re: [WANTED] Sekka dwarf hinoki
Congratulations Mike, you have proved me wrong on how long it has been in the country and you have also highlighted how easy this plant is to propagate.... However, I stand by my comment regarding the biggest secret in the nursery industry, I did a ring around today, with 4 bonsai nurseries within 2hrs drive of me (2 of the best known) none grow or stock it. More researching on this forum shows many historic posts of people hunting for it and also a reference to a grower who originally imported it yet it seems unavailable, unless to show off of coursetreeman wrote:Yes same dwarf plant and no secret.Elmer wrote:We are talking the same dwarf variety? Re: [WANTED] Sekka dwarf hinoki
Elmer, I wouldn’t say its unavailable. I have one, actually I have more than one, quite a few people I know have one. As for the Nursery Industry unless they are into Bonsai, most if not all would have no clue. As a garden plant its too slow, too prickly, too stringy not really a great garden specimmen anyone would be proud of. Not really marketable for the Nursery Industry therefore no interest $$$$$$.
Cheers

Re: [WANTED] Sekka dwarf hinoki
I don't understand what your problem is. You obviously have one though. The sarcasm ( congratulations ) we can all do without. You should know that when I say something, you can take it to the bank. There is no secret, there was no secret. I have propagated this plant from the time I acquired it and freely shared it with anyone who desired it. Even Ray Nesci bought one from me about 5 years ago or so. There are probably in the order of 100 or more propagations from me alone out there (if they are still alive) and I also know that at least 2 other nursery people now have it and are also increasing it. I never suggested it was a common plant but it's certainly available to anyone keen enough to hunt it down. As for the ''showing off bit'', a rather pathetic and cynical viewpoint. This forum, and the various clubs and shows we are members of, exist to discuss and show bonsai.Elmer wrote:
