Please stop trying to bring down "the hobby" with your own unsubstantiated grievances - it is pathetically sooky.
You are correct that in this world, desire rules. That is human nature. If you don't have goals and desire, then purpose and ambition is dead.
As for "greed", this is just a lame cliché used to paint some sort of fabricated self-victimisation, and nearly always manifested by some form of jealousy or perceived entitlement.
You are, however, spot-on with the reasons people keep secrets - but so what?

Oh, and if you'd like a chojubai, I can send you one with complements - I have heaps of them. They sprout suckers like a noxious weed.

Isn’t the OP after a form of dwarf hinoki cypress, not a chojubai quince?

Bumping because I am also interested in the Sekka hinoki.

Daluke - did you manage to find one in the past year?

I will have limited quantities (very limited) in a year or so. They are very slow. I think there are one or two other people growing them but I don't know who or where they are.

I'm one of the two others growing it, and just like treeman, I'll have limited quantities available in a year or so.

Some tips for those who are growing and propagating it.
- They will grow like crazy in a greenhouse, they love the humidity and it's one of the only ways to protect them during the peak of summer.
- I've had the greatest success with softwood cuttings (when they are still green, and only a 2-3cm cutting). They will throw out roots in 2-3 weeks, particularly if you use an aeroponics cloner.

Just let them grow Tim. Don't go trying to trim, shape or otherwise bother them. :tu: Once they get going they will put out 100mm shoots or more in a season. That will build some wood on the trunk.

I did get my hands on some - they are interesting little things.

Both from Treeman and Evan (thank you!)

I haven’t touched them despite the temptation to start snipping and propagating.

I hope they put on some growth in spring and summer.

Hopefully we get more of these guys out there so nice material is available.

I'd like to pop my name onto the very limited wait-list please!

Good to hear that a few people have them now, and all at a similar age. Will be interesting to see how they progress through the years with everyone's artistic flair applied.

Here’s to the first batch of cuttings in sand.

Aeroponics failed dismally.

Interesting, why did you use sand, and how coarse is it? I can't use the mix from that youtube channel because it's mostly akadama, but I do have a heap of pumice fines or zeolite I could use...

I was just googling aeroponics - you've saved me a bit of coin and time :tu:

Get a Cloner - they are good for for other species. I’ve had great success with chirimen jasmine, Callicarpa japonica and chojubai.

As for sand - I get river sand and mix in some sphagnum. This is my go to mix for cuttings.

I’ve used zeolite and pumice fines too - it retains too much moisture in my yard.

Is Sekka the same as Chirimen? They look similar at first glance. At the moment I have Repens, Pygmea, and Nana.
