(SELL) Tim's Stump Sale Prunus/Oak/ J-Maple (MELB)

I have a few rough stock stumps laying around that i wouldn't mind parting with covering Prunus, Oak and Japanese Maple.

All purchased over the years for their future bonsai potential at the forefront of my mind. There are lots of stumps in the world, but picking the ones with bonsai potential is the key.

Prices are just what i paid for them, not looking to profiteer off the community, just move some excess stock on that i'm no longer interested in growing.

Pick up only in Bayside Melbourne.

#1. Plum with future windswept potential. Purchased from Moongate about a year ago i chopped the top off and started training the lower branch for a windswept penjing type of style. Really anything could be done with it as it buds freely from dormant buds on the trunk. $200

Plum #2. A larger stump of a purple leaf plum also from Moongate picked up at the same time. More conventional style just needing some more guidance to bring out the future best in it. $250

Prunus sp. Not sure exactly which Prunus this is, but classic white flower basically. Half way undecided if this is a leaning cascade style or an upright, either way a good tree in the making $450

Turkey Oak. Beautiful crackly old bark on this one with a powerful base which is what drew me to it. Up to you if you want to keep it as it is and develop the top, or use one of the lower dormant buds to grow out and really take advantage of the power in the base. $490

Finally a Japanese Maple, i'd love to say it's sango kaku but i can't be sure. Large twin trunk stump, i've just cleared out this spring's unnecessary shoots so it looks a little bare compared to normal. I left a big stub on the main trunk line and wired up the new leader that is now in position and the stub is dying back nicely to meet the main trunk chop point (only one big scar rather than multiple to worry about. My hand as size reference, you could keep it as it is, or air layer below the trunks for a more radial set of roots. Your choice! $550.

If I wasn’t down sizing Tim the oak would be mine.
The bark on that Oak… what a great starters. Surprised it hasn’t been snapped up. :lost:
Cheers

Ta! Yep you don't see Oak with bark like that too often. I saw another oak stump at Tien's with no taper or movement, just old bark asking $1,000 so Mine's a decent pick up I reckon.

They will all go to club nights and sale days over the next few months anyway so no harm if they don't sell on here

Going to throw this in here, Blue Cedar now happily growing again after a shock in spring coming out of the pot it was in. I've just turned the main trunkline into one massive jin for now, up to you what you want to do with it in the future but i don't plan to continue it particularly.

Height and width of base/ trunk is shown in the photos below $350

Fair warning, from January onwards this and the other material will be going to club nights/ shows etc for sale, so if you are sitting on the fence on anything, feel free to PM me. The christmas special pricing remains.

Some really great futures in these trees, so if you're thinking about making the step up from younger material or looking for some workshop stuff then look no further. I'm surprised a few of these haven't sold like the Oak and the Blue Cedar. Plums will go like hotcakes as soon as they start flowering too.

Okay i really need to get these moved on as i'm winding back my bonsai growing to just keep the main specimen trees in the shadehouse, as i expand my actual garden.

I have 2 more plums as well that i will post up shortly that i was planning on hanging on to, but now it's just time to make space.

So i'm open to offers on the remaining stumps; that is Plum 2, the Japanese Maple and the blue cedar. No postage, pick up only or possibly local (SE/ Bayside Melbourne) drop off.

Hi Tim,

Thanks again for the discussion. I want to clarify that I'm not offended by your statements at all.

Regarding the current prices of the trees you have for sale, they seem quite appropriate now. In fact, I'm considering buying the Cedar, provided it hasn’t been snapped up already. As we’ve discussed, no one is forcing you to sell the trees, just as no one is compelled to buy them. You’ve been very fair in adjusting the prices, and the market has responded well—most of your stock is nearly sold. This shows that the system works and that this marketplace serves its purpose well.

The bonsai market in Australia is quite niche, and for most Australians, bonsai is more of a novelty. Given this context, I believe our discussion is quite fair. The number of people who can see the potential in buying a stump that has bushed out is limited.

To quote your sale post:
"Yep, you don't see Oak with bark like that too often. I saw another oak stump at Tien's with no taper or movement, just old bark asking $1,000, so mine's a decent pick up I reckon."
You’re competing against Tien, there are professionals out there in the trade who probably run their business at a loss.

I hope this helps clarify my perspective.

Sorry that "Keep Calm and Ramify" locked me out and I had to post this here.

Thanks for the interest,

I have had a another more local member express interest in the Cedar, so it is at this stage no longer available.

Not willing to part with the maple at $150 + postage sorry, just not prepared to lose that much money on it when i can send it to the club shows in the next few months and move it there for more.

I apologise to you for letting my frustrations with your thread that appeared to me to be going in circles get the better of me. I hold no personal issue with you at all

I have had another local member express interest in the Cedar, so it is at this stage no longer available.

The Maple and Prunus that still remain will go to the club show sales days in a few months time. At the time of posting i had some unexpected costs pop up, that has passed now and i'm not particularly desperate to move them on anymore.
