When a Plan Comes Together - English Elm Literati

Post by Watto »

A few days ago I posted a photo of a glazed nanban bonsai pot that I made especially for this tree. There is always some apprehension when you have a tree in one location and make a pot in another location (even though you have measured it many times) to see if it all fits together BUT it has!
So with out further ado here is my literati English elm with its new shoes.

The root area needed some reduction and that may lead to another stock tree on the bench.

That tree looks stunning. How long did it take to get that ramification?

It was dug in 2018 I think and the majority of the shari work and some ramification work was done by the horses prior to digging.
I think they did a good job.

I know we signed an agreement when we started bonsai, to RAMIFY EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE, FOREVER, etc, but I'm just wondering whether a few, more sparse branches up the top might harmonise better with that long bare trunk? Just a thought. Nice horse-work.

Thanks Gavin, I have considered a "top reduction" and have picked out a location. It may happen this season, I'll have to see how things progress after the repot.
