Yes, good to hear from you Ian albeit - sorry that you remain incapacitated- your trees (and we all) are worse off for it …
but it’s sounds like you’re passing the baton (or the cash!) to your son.

Re: Tridents Galore
Hi Mel , No quick fixes i'm afraid . Its settling down but its taken a mighty effort of doing nothing and way too many {doctor prescribed} pain killers to achieve a little bit of comfort .
With over 100,000 operations on hold in Victoria alone I have had to learn tolerance and that will continue for a while yet .
Hi MJL , Noah was a member here about 10 years ago at the age of 9 , definitely the youngest member here and at the Bonsai club .He had an eye for finding a tree in every trunk , now his chasing hot cars and skirt .
Unfortunately his not to keen on wiring and he has absolutely no tolerance .
Al the best to every one . Cheers Ian

Re: Tridents Galore
These are the last of the big fused trunks most now reside in other Eastern states
this is the largest trunk i have left , it needs some serious root work so i have slip potted it today to begin the exercise While i was at it I put a few thread graft into the upper section

Re: Tridents Galore
I have managed to graft a few seedlings onto this base
While i was out there I wired a few of the trainers down using a simple basic guide wire This is 1 of the smaller fused trunks i have used a shoot from the base to create a new apex via a thread graft .
Cheers Ian .
, a fiddly job but with 20 plus seedlings attacked most should work to improve the Narebri . While i was out there I wired a few of the trainers down using a simple basic guide wire This is 1 of the smaller fused trunks i have used a shoot from the base to create a new apex via a thread graft .

Re: Tridents Galore
Hi Mel at a gues 15cm -20cm at the base and a 30cm Naribri at ground level its getting bigger . these new roots will improve it , I may graft some of the seedling into the trunk to continue to fill it in a bit more .
It has a purpose grown Uro from the base about 30cm up the trunk .It been a long term project that's for sure .
Cheers Ian

Re: Tridents Galore
The long term projects tend to pay off, don't they? Very nicely done, thanks for the close up of that uro.

Re: Tridents Galore
Hi Ian, haven't heard the term Uro before, did you achieve this by leaving a gap when you initially formed the fused trunks or after the had grown then removed an existing part of the fused trunk.
Peter.

Re: Tridents Galore
Hi Mel , long term projects do pay off if you hold your ground in any field . .
Hi Peter , you have heard of "Jin" and "shari" now then "Uro" is an irregular shaped hollow at the base not necessarily carved , mine just happens to run up the tree a bit more .
It was formed leaving a gap in the base when fusing started 13 years ago . Inside the trunk it has complete bark not carved deadwood making it even more unique . In the pic you might be able to see a couple of longer shoots i'm holding back , they growing from inside the trunk as it is all alive , i have to remove these quite often .
Cheers Ian
