Hi Grant, beautiful tree, great explanation of its progress.
Just goes to show that not every tree has to have a heavy trunk or be grown on quickly in the ground.

Awesome thread.
So cool to see a tree's documentation over time like this.
You are a true asset to both this site and the bonsai community Grant.
Thanks.

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Looks like it is about 8 years since I updated this thread.
The tree in question has been neglected for the past 5 years except for removal of wire; thanks to my wife.
Anyhow, one portion had embedded so far that we could not get it out, so I decided to cut back and Jin the entire apex.
Started work today and here is where I got up to.
work involved reopening old Shari that had grown over and a new coherent line of wind swept/blown/damaged sections.
the rest of the foliage will be shortened to control vigour and roll over of cambium.
The original pot was smashed a number of months ago by a Possum, so it was repotted in a hurry and allowed to grow untouched till today.
Luckily I already had in stock the pot I had planned for the tree, and I think it suits it nicely.
I Also , it means I have had this tree now for 47 years.

Wow I can't imagine owning a tree for so long. I just cracked 11 years for my first couple of trees. Amazing stuff. Very cool tree Grant
