I have read the magazine article which contains more photos. I have also seen the documentary that was made to accompany the article.....some of which can be seen in the link above.

Not sure how you photoshop a video

They used photoshop to create a composite image of the whole tree, but that doesn't mean its fake.

Are you suggesting National Geographic use CGI to make fake documentaries? I think that's unlikely.

Not at all just that one picuture (8th picture down) LOOKS photoshopped, as the dude at the top of the tree, is double the size of the rest could just be the camera angle or something like that Just thought it was funny, not fake

Yeah I think its just the camera angle.

They are using a really wide lens a fairly short distant from the tree.

But I agree that does look odd.

Despite this I think the photo and article is stunning.

It inspired me to buy a load of Sequoia seeds which have germinated and are already growing fast!

No no no - but when they said it was the first time it had been captured in a single image I thought of 1 photograph, but as it says on the linked page it's a composite of 126 different photographs.

My wife standing at the base of the "President" giant sequoia: Officially the world's second largest tree (Photo taken on our recent trip).

Having stood right next to the "Big Three" giant sequoias... General Sherman, The President and General Grant (the world's three largest trees respectively)' the "President" is in my opinion the most impressive of the three, and the single-most impressive stick I've seen in 35 years of forestry. An astonishing tree.
