Ancient Paperbarks - Denmark WA

These are very old Melaleuca Cuticularis growing in a wetland in Denmark Western Australia. There's a short boardwalk over the water so you can walk through them. Many have fallen over and now have other trees like Watti growing on their trunks.

Awesome… thanks for sharing.
I’ve got a few of these I’m growing from seed that are coming along, nice to see them in their natural habitat. WA has some lovely Mels, particularly down south.

Oh wow. There’s some beautifully knotted, gnarled and traumatized looking trunks and limbs in there!

Thank you so much! They are awe-inspiring!

It's interesting, there is so much trunk, and so little foliage left, just at the tips. Not healthy, cushion-y pads the way we often grow our bonsai. Also interesting that these feral trunks are not from "hard country" - dry and bleak - but just the opposite. It's a species I will need to chase up, if it's over this side.

Thanks again - we have a long way to go before we get trunks that are this complex.
