G'day eWorkshoppers and AusBonsaiers,

Congratulation to everyone who's trees were selected and to the others who missed out this time, we hope you will still follow the workshop and post your updates in this thread. We will keep this thread open for discussion to all members about the eWorkshop and for you guy's/girls who missed out to post your updates.

In no particular order and the members who have a place in this eWorkshop.

Following are the next steps you need to take.

1. Prepare your tree - expose the base, remove weeds, remove any remaining leaves.
2. Photograph your tree from at least 4 sides, the base and the top looking down. More angles would be beneficial too and you can post as many pictures as you like. Pictures should be clear and taken in front of a plain background. Visit THIS THREAD for tips on photographing bonsai.
3. Update your profile via the User Control Panel to ensure your location is clear. Suburb and State please. This will assist Grant with giving you horticultural advice.
4. Start a new topic in the eWorkshop forum.
5. Name your topic as follows - [Username] Ash eWorkshop (if you have more than 1 entry please put a 1 or 2 after your name)
6. Post your pictures, history of your tree, details of last repot and/or root work as well as anything else that could be beneficial to future styling and advice.
7. Get ready for an intensive eWorkshop over the next year or so

Grant will then address each of your trees and give direction for the next steps. He will also be using this thread for updates and information directed to you all as a group so ensure you keep up to date with reading all posts.

I will appreciate any advice you care to give, while weeding & mulching my garden this week I had a poke around, rot & longicorn grubs have made short work of most of the internal wood and one side of the base leaving a very interesting start point. The central trunk is dead as is the straight section of roots cutting straight thru the middle from this side. The loop is all live wood Thanks in advance,

What a shocker!!!

I presume there are some live roots still in the ground?

Two ways to go; Either cut it into two pieces or don't if both sides would not have roots. That's a straight forward start. The dead middle trunk might have started the rot and the beetles took it from there maybe.

If OK in your region you could pull it out of the ground; wash off all soil and carve/scrape back to solid wood and plant in an adequate size bonsai pot; at and interesting angle for the roots; but not the eventual size pot but a bit bigger( but nor too big that the tree will drown in the excess soil)..

If rotten through the middle and separated you will end up with two pieces of living artwork; not classic Bonsai but could evolve into something very interesting.

Hi all,

I am basically ready to start the individual eWorkshops and make some general comments on the balance in this thread.

I am also about ready to start my 30 Ash seedling bonsai and do some work on my 3 existing mini Ash.

I have had emails from a few of you saying you are unable to work on the trees right at the moment so just start your thread when you are ready. As you are aware it is over a year or so and, as it is winter at the moment, as long as we do the initial styling by say late August we will be OK.

I remembered to grab a couple of pictures from a Ash that was growing in a paddock near by. It was about 12:30 but you wouldn't be able to guess that from the photo. While its too big for a pot it's got a nice broom style to it.

I read the eworkshop threads with great interest and envy. I think it is a fabulous and unique idea-certainly not one I have seen done elsewhere. Just wondering given the talented group of forumers we have are there plans to expand the current workshops? I would love to see a fig, shohin, melaleuca, and azalea workshop!
