Nice progress on this one. Good to see a clear design coming through.

Hi all,

We got some work done on this tree last week and Leigh and I spent the whole day, other than a meeting, compressing and placing branches.

We will take a photo in the morning and then continue to finish it off.

We are both very excited about how it is turning out.

Hi all,

Here is a photo of the tree as we left it yesterday. Still lots to do but getting there.

Today we are working on further refining and compacting the foliage. The apex branches have only been roughly placed at the moment as well.

We will attempt to pull in the branches on the left hand side more up to about 2/3rds up the height of the tree.

Hey Grant,

You and Leigh are working wonders on this tree. I am just wondering about the difference in the needle colour, Is it the lighting/photo or some other reason for the difference? It just looks really yellowish in the lastest pics.

Just the lighting/photography/tweaking etc we feel.

Oh, and maybe a bit of winter color. We have had some seriously -minus temps here overnight. I drove home from a workshop at about 10pm last night and it was + .5 degrees.

Hi all,

Here is another photo towards the end of the (outside) working day at the collection. Color a bit better.

Leigh and I have been pulling, tweaking, twiching most of the day (And working on the tree as well) and are happy with it so far. Of course we now need spring growth to really fill it out and it isn't that far away. We close down prior to Floriade on 24th August and thats less than 8 weeks away.

This tree is a credit to you both, it shows what knowledge can bring to the table. Good wiring and styling techniques, will always succeed.

The foliage hides a lot! Anyhow kind of you to say so.

We are reworking the apex a little at the moment(compressing and dropping it lower) to allow the tips of the apex branches to point upwards a little; to look a bit more natural.

This tree is coming along really well. Over the last couple of months we have put quite alot of work into it. Lots of wiring, and lots of bending and placement of branches. There has been a total of 65 hours of work put into the tree. I feel like I really know the tree well as 32.5 of those were mine....dont laugh when I start talking to it as I am working! :? Both Grant and I have had a fair amount of help from the volunteers to help with things. I cant wait to see how the tree develops over the next 10 years into a stunning tree for the Collection.

Cheers,
Leigh.

Hi all,

The following photos are self explanatory.

The last one shows more clearly some of the efforts (wiring) that we have undertaken over the last couple of months.

Hi all,

Spent another day, this time with Jim my senior volunteer helping, working on the pine. All up about another 6 hours between us.

We tweaked all the littlest branches and buds. Now all growth faces out from the trunk, all buds lightly pointed up and the apex slightly lowered.

Jim wondered if the trunk height ratio was 4 to 1? We put a tape measure on it (for the first time) and the trunk is 180cm at least accross! And the height about 520cm!

Ratio less than 3 to 1!
